Event 5 of 12 for Fall 2004 EM Created Arc

Overview

The Royal Guard have discovered that the Gargoyle City is closed off, their shrine broken by fire, and introduced to Gerem Pazen the Gargoyle Scholar. They helped save him from captors in Inquisition Dungeon (formerly known as NorthEast Dungeon), find his journals in Central Dungeon, and discovered the reason behind the paragon mutation throughout the lands.

Procedure :

Royal Guard is summoned to the castle. Gerem Pazen is determined to get into the City, and has told Archimedes that he believes there are some tombs within the city of Montor that could help. He is too timid to go himself, and has given maps to him to know where to look. He suggest finding the tombs, and inscribing copies of them. He had donated the use of his Dictionaries for the Royal Guard, which are to be located at the Lycaeum.

Players arrive in Montor and seek out the Tomes. Meanwhile, Judge Julius Dryden will run through the area insulting the Partisans of Chaos for turning sides and failing him. He will expect them back in uniform next week, and will summon them when the time is right. If anyone ask him where he can be met, he claims he is remaining hidden so not to be killed. Dryden will try to keep off screen of Archimedes so that the players can be split up - Montor is tight.

While in Montor Spawn ANY of the native monsters to keep everyone on their toes.

After all the Tomes are found and inscribed, Archimedes will tell them they shall be put on display at the Lycaeum, however in the event they can't find a way in they are to investigate an alternate way into the city. He honestly has no idea where to start looking. (how mean)

GM SETUP :

If I have two helpers we need Gerem Pazen and Julius Dryden. If only one, then Julius Dryden.

88 1467 -28 Ilshenar : Oracle. It's an Evil Mage "Unknown Retired Evil Mage" We PURPOSEDLY do not know his name.

Hello : I ... I will not speak to you! Leave me be !
speak : Why should I speak to you? The Royal Guard has ruined my career and doesn't even know who I am.
who: See what I mean? You don't know my name!
Name : If you have the common courtesy to address me by my name, then we'll talk.
Blixden : Ah, so you know who I am? Then I assume you want to know of my deficiency
deficiency : I failed my boss, and have been decommissioned - it's not my fault, he underestimated the Royal Guard!
boss : Ylinchiz
Ylinchiz: My Boss.
decommissioned : Aye, my loyalties with him have waivered. He has enlisted the help of a Sorcerer now.
Sorcerer : One you no doubt heard of, only the most powerful of Sorcerers of the lands of Sosaria
Sosaria : Where you are from! Anyway, the Sorcerer resides outside a forest.
forest : somewhat between two actually - at least that's what I remember.
remember : Go search for yourself, I have told you all I know.

1585 991 20 : Ilshenar . Place a plain crystal ball on the table that sparkles

Hello : Address me by my name !
Esthram : This is Esthram the Ancient Sorcerer, what business have you Blixden?
Blixden : Well I assume this is Blixden, you are summoning me yet again about Gargoyles are you not?
Gargoyle/Gargoyles : I still don't know what's going on in Ver Lor Reg, but I think I have some answers in Karnaugh
Karnaugh : Yes, the deserted fortress in the mountains east of the Valor Shrine. I found many old journals there.
Journals : Go read them yourself, and summon me again with any questions.
Xilden : One of the greatest sorcerers I believe that lived before my time, and a metalurgist
metalurgist : You'll have to ask Julix about that.
Wisp : To the west of Honesty Shrine, there you should ask for Julix
Julix : Ylinchiz's right hand man - he is the one devising a plan to get into the Gargoyle City himself. Ask him about his metalurgist studies.
Zhiro : Sent to Felucca to hide something valuable.
Hyxinth : A researcher of great reptilian beast.

874 1571 -23 : Ilshenar : Julix

Hello : GO AWAY! Guards!

It is with great fear and trepidation that I must report to Ylinchiz that we have failed to maintain custody of Gerem Pazen and did not extract the information requested. In my defense, Ylinchiz underestimated the connections Gerem Pazen had with his people in the other world, for they came to our dungeon and fortress in great numbers, easily bypassing the barriers placed within and outside bridge.

A week has passed, and I have not yet heard from Ylinchiz since the delivery message of our failure. I have learned from one of the men that worked on the west side of the dungeon that an old man in purple robes was seen leaving the dungeon with Gerem Pazen, and he was recognized as the same that made a deal with the Etheral Warriors months ago to protect one of their cities. His name I don't know, but now I am worried for Ylinchiz, for perhaps his shortsightedness is the reason I haven't heard back.

Finally my messenger has returned! It seems the old man's name is Archimedes, who commands a large battalion of fighters from the other world that call themselves the Royal Guard. They are the ones directly responsible for my failure, and I am told they are arranging attacks on our forces in Central Dungeon looking for the journals that I was ordered to find. Ylinchiz told my messenger that my failure has disappointed him, and it would behoove me to take my finest men to Central to assist in the defenses. Our new ally Julius Dryden will be accompanying me, I am told he can provide much insight in avoiding confrontation with the Royal Guard.

My first priority will be to relocate to Central Dungeon.

88 1467 -28 Book of Failure

We have arrived too late - the journals have been located by the Royal Guard and Archimedes has already inscribed them and left copies in their lands.

Amos has been executed for informing the Royal Guard the password to the library - he claims ghost were haunting him while he hid up in the storeroom; I say good riddance to the fool, for his obsession with having a password for every day of the year did nothing but provide a large inconvience for us all. I have ordered the magical locks on the library to be removed.

I have failed Ylinchiz and will wait here till I am given new orders.

My orders are clear, I have been fired. I will sit and wait for no apparent reason at all.

1593 992 20: Old Tower. Home of the Old Sorcerer

I think it was night I think, I'm not sure. There was no light in or outside, the entire woods were void of all sound, and it was cold - I could see my breath. That is when they came, they sat around me at first, without sound, movement, or action. At first I thought I would be killed, but then thoughts and visions filled my head as they drifted closer and their ghastly robes brushed my skin.

I saw visions of my old lands of Sosaria burning under an unstoppable fire. Orcs, trolls, and vermin swarmed from the boundaries towards Britain, unstoppable and unrelentless. The one I feared most was returning, forgotten over the years and poised for victory. I was to play a small role and I could not resist my Master.

They left, and I am unsure in what my task is...all I know, there is death ahead.

My magic crystal ball shows activity in Ilshenar as of late. The Gargoyle city has been shut off, and a great many number of primitives are trying to get inside. The mages have been wandering out of their dungeons again, dealing with a small army from my old lands - the Royal Guard! It seems to relate to the visions. I know I can not hide from my captors, but I can hide from the Royal Guard.

I have decided to pack my things and hide in the valley of the ancient Gargoyle Shrine, and discontinue my research in the ruins in North Ilshenar. If any one of my colleges needs me, simply shout my name.

1028 272 78: Pass of Karnaugh

I was no more than 3 hours time from my home when they found me, the ones I would be enserviced to. I saw the evil ones eyes glaring at me ...just their eyes.... I came cold, and fell to my feet. As powerful and brave I am, I could not stand before them. Master was returning, but hopefully not before I finish my work. I must hide from them, anywhere. Only place I can think of, just one......

Scattered throughout here are damaged journals and diaries, all readable.

The giants have taken the first floor, and mages have joined with them and are plundering and looting all they can. My husband has ordered the men to barricade all the stairs with whatever isn't securely fastened on our home in an attempt to hold off their attacks until they lose interest and leave.

Council Meeting Log

Meeting 243

A young couple were alone on the roofs star-watching when they noticed peculiar noises and lights to the far west. They summoned Hium, who with the aide of a spyglass believes some unknown force is trying to reach our home. Many councilmen have scolded him for the summons late this night, and claim our city is safe.

Meeting 244

Issues pertaining to limits on exploration of the outside world were not addressed this morning due to Hium's claims of a possible invasion. The entire council was called to the roof, and an odd sound was heard from the distance. Several council members disregarded the noises and refused to waste anymore time with Hium.

Meeting 245

Another meeting in the dead of the night arranged by Xilden. Council member Jui-lon and Kur did not attend. More lights and noises have been observed to the west, but now also to the east. Several men have been anointed with the task to leave our city and investigate.

Meeting 246

Results of investigations by Yumki and Chalif have startled the entire council and many of our citizens. Large amount of cyclops and titans have begun to mine through the cliffs near their home and are coming towards us, as many mages have done the same to the east. Council fears our secret home has been discovered and at the moment are illequipted to stage any sort of defensive measure. Xilden suggest we build great fires to the south, and put out all lights within our city at night and order all populace to be silent in the days.

Meeting 247

The council has promoted Xilden for his execution in diversionary tactics to thwart the possible invasion of the giants and mages; it's reported that the invaders are now mining through the mountains heading south. Citizens are ordered to continue to obey curfew for at least several more weeks until which time the invaders have left sight.

Meeting 248

Yumki and Hiusuif have reported that the excavations of the invading hoard have once again turned toward us. Citizens are afraid they have noticed birds fly over the mountains towards us, instead of the fires. Teams have begun to fortify the entrances into our fortress from which points we believe they will break through the rock.

Meeting 249

Xilden has erected great magical doors at all probable entrances to the city. They are built of a rare substance called Obsidian. He has omitted the the password enchantment, due to the fact we don't want out, and the forces aren't to get in.

Meeting 250

This will possibly be the last entry, The entire council has been disbanded and put at the front line to assist in defenses. We are not so confidant that the Obsidian doors will hold off the forces, they are now starting to dig around the building and will reach places Xilden did not place any protection.

I fear it's only a matter of hours till both forces penetrate the barriers and spill into the lower halls. Xilden curses the fact he did not place very specific incantations on the barricades, therefor we are completely trapped. He was able though to open a magical gateway for many monsters to come into the first floor in hopes they prove too much for the invaders, and afterwards he will simply close off their entry way and we will dispose of them ourselves.

--------end

Ymnsil's Journal

We have taken up a defense in this room, and are hoping Xilden's monsters down below will prove to our invaders that this fortress is more trouble than it's worth. Our leader Karnaugh is confidant we will still win, however is clueless as to why we are being invaded in the first place.

We are doomed. The monsters may defeat the invaders, but Xilden has fallen and only he is able to close the portal of which the monsters spill into our home. I have not seen my family for hours - I doubt they are still alive.

--------------- end

The Fall

Long ago, our people worked hard to isolate themselves from the outside so that we may pursue intellectual and artistic endeavosr without outside influence. Time has taken its toll, and my people have become lazy and inept. For five generations, many members of the council have not earned their position, it was given to them as an inheritance. Our galleries are stale, stories are worn thin, and the advancement of our society is not apparent to myself. It's my shame of our people that has called forth the plan of Revitalization.

I believe my people need to be reminded why we went into isolation so long ago - the outside world is cruel and unforgiving and doesn't allow us the luxury of time for advancement. I have personally left the city on several occasions, and supplied information to the savage beings living to the west and east that our city is full of riches and rewards - I know my people would think of this as a betrayment, but I have full confidence that we can deal with these beast and reaffirm our pride that was lost long ago.

I checked myself, and my plan is unfolding. The invasion has begun, yet my people do not notice.

They have spotted the incoming invaders! I have drafted every single man and woman to pick up their spellbooks, and sharpen their antique blades. May the blood and sweat of our ancestors rise up again, and my people realize what they worked so hard for and how they foolishly wasted it all away soon.

I am proud of Xilden who has answered the valorous call that was demanded to all my people. He has removed the need for my people to fight, and the hoards now travel south. I feel that we have gotten off too easy, but it is best if no blood was shed and my people are simply reminded of their past. I am content.

It seems an old fashioned fight shall be embraced after all, for the hoards have redirected their approach. Uilik and Ternial have refreshed themselves of their forefathers battle tactics, and will be at the front lines where the forces should emerge. Thanks to the work of Xilden, they will easily fend them off from the rooftops and my people will practically be spiritually reborn.

Things are not going as I hoped, the forces are larger in numbers than I believed possible, and both of my war lords have fallen! The blockades constructed by Xilden will hold for awhile, and he has suggested we bring in other monsters to fight with the giants and mages while we barricade ourselves upstairs - afterwards he will eliminate his summonings and we will triumph.

What have I done? I was a fool, such a fool. Xilden has fallen, and we have no means to live on. My people are weak, our fall is undeniable - whether it's from the monsters I have brought or the ones Xilden has summoned. I have failed my people, and destroyed our civilization in a foolish attempt to rebuild our pride and honor. I have ordered the men to barricade the paths, as so whoever is still alive make peace with the Maker. I will not honor the hoards with the satisfaction of my death by their hands, I will take that which they want for myself soon....

There's several books in the Mage's Dungeon (under Wisp)

Journal by Ylinchiz

Memo

Inform all men that Julius Dryden is an ally, and be sure to seek counsel before any planned confrontations with the Royal Guard.

Retrieve the Stone Tablets from Felucca for Translation.

Capture the Flame Ancient Wyrms and Train for the Master.

Retrieve the Blueprints from Mistas for Julix

Ylinchiz

Another book

Ylinchiz has confined us to our dungeon to buy us a little more time to establish exactly where Zhiro has hidden the sacred Stone Tablets in the lands of Felucca. He fears the Royal Guard is close on our heels, and we will have to confront many of them when we go to retrieve them. Dryden, a once powerful man that led the Partisans of Chaos, will no doubt summon his followers to protect our scholars as they retrieve the Tablets.

Another Book

I am sick and tired that Ylinchiz has focused all his efforts onto the gargoyles neglecting the extremely rare opportunity that is upon us. It is rumored every five hundred years that the Ancient Wyrms here in Ilshenar bears a single mutated offspring - a fire-emodied Ancient Wyrm. I am positive that it will be born to two Ancient Wyrms in the next several days - one at the great Volcano and the other near the Lizardman City. I will continue to push Ylinchiz to go and capture these beast, and train them to serve us!

Another Book

How can I fly with the eagles when I am surround by such turkeys?!

My men failed to keep Gerem Pazen in custody, learn any of the Gargoyle Language, nor find his journals that he wrote these past seven years. I don't blame my men completely, I honesty thought that his people have forgotten about him. The only good that has come of the past few days is meeting Julius Dryden, a man who fought against the one who leads the Royal Guard and has swore his loyalties to me.

A few days ago we were in possession of the journals written by Gerem Pazen. Word spread quickly though, and the Royal Guard were being organized right away. I am happy to report Dryden handed the journals over to a trusted mage that delivered them to the Central Dungeon while leading the Royal Guard to Blood Dungeon to buy us some time with the Journals. It was completely absurd, however, to learn they were magically sealed and could not be opened for reading nor inscription! We knew the Royal Guard would head in our direction soon enough, so I ordered the journals to be hidden throughout the dungeon - many damaged books were hidden to hopefully confuse them while the inhabitants disposed of them. I am disgusted to report that the Royal Guard is a much bigger threat than I initially realized, and they have recovered the journals from our very own dungeon!

I don't know why I worry so much - Dryden reports the Journals were found and immediately made available for public reading at a library called The Lycaeum in the other lands. I have sent two of my best scouts to investigate and make copies of the journals.

It took me a few hours, but I have completed reading the journals. I am afraid they were completely useless in deciphering what little text I hand copied from the stone tablet was hidden years ago for safekeeping. The journals do hint at another set of books written by Gerem, focusing on Gargoyle Translation! This is exactly what I need, and have sent several men to investigate and acquire them.

In other news, one of my scholars has informed me of a great opportunity to capture a rare species of Ancient Wyrm, one that will be born of flames. I understand that it may be possible to control this beast, however I am afraid that the Royal Guard could do the same. If his calculations are correct, two of them should be born soon, I have allowed him to investigate further and keep me updated.

I have organized a task force that will be responsible to relocate the Stone Tablets that we have hidden in the lands called Felucca, and go there soon to retrieve them.

I hope I can soon answer the questions as to the reasons the Gargoyles have gone back into seclusion, why their shrine has torn apart, and the visions I have received the past several years in my sleep.

Journal #8 : Located in Gerem's House. 1309 1315 -14

I would like to thank Joan of Arc, Wild Thing, and Marcus Garvey profusely for their hard work in finding me imprisoned within the dungeon located in the desert of Ilshenar. I was a great burden for them to carry me out, however they alerted Archimedes the Old who rescued me shortly thereafter. Archimedes apologized for his tardiness, blaming that the dungeon had no name and the convienent path was blocked. He has bestowed the peculiar honor on those three that saved me to submit names for the dungeon that the entire Royal Guard can vote on! I care not what they name it - I never wish to go back there.

When I returned to my home with Archimedes, we were ambushed by Julius Dryden who took my journals that I worked so hard to write the past several years. Archimedes summoned the Royal Guard to assist in their retreval from Central Dungeon (located south of Honor Shrine). I am told I have Marcus Garvey, Joan of Arc, Bailai, JT, and reaper to thank for their safe return. Archimedes the Old believes they will be of use for the Royal Guard, so I have donated them to the Lycaeum which is located just south of his office.

I have just finished rewriting the journals I made the few days before my incarceration into one convienent book, and now must continue with my research. The Gargoyle City is still closed off. The evil mages have taken a large interest in my work, thinking I may know something. Strange mutations of the creatures in this land have appeared, and are known only as "Paragons". Archimedes the Old tells me of orcs attacking Cove and Yew, and strange monsters from Malas inside Britain itself! What troubles me most is he has no explanation of the attacks nor how they can be related to the mystery here in Ilshenar.

Since I am unable to make anything of these Gargoyles, nor believe my assistance to the Royal Guard in Trammel will be of any help, I am going to try and figure out what I can about these Paragons. I plan to start at Valor Shrine and spent several days in the forest.

I fear I am not much of the adventuring type, and have returned home for more supplies. I have decided to focus on the area around my home and had the most peculiar encounter with a naked man named Avacado. He insist he was a pixie and was frolicing with the shadow wisp and unicorns in the forest just north of my home. I suggest he take himself and his odd behavior to Bet-Lem Reg, however he claims his time as a bear makes the forest more comfortable. I honesty felt pretty creeped out with him in the area, and decided to come home today and plan my exploration in another area of Ilsheanr - I think Justice would be a good direction.

I was travelling in the dangerous forest near the Justice Shrine trying to avoid the imps and reapers, and it became night in the middle of the day. I found myself going west instead of east and stumbled upon a cliff, and looked up and saw them -the ones I have only heard stories about. A chill went up my spine and the hairs on my neck stood out! I screamed and tried to run however the forest was closing in on me. I turned and saw them looking down, and their eyes focused deeply upon mine own.

I awoke in my home here a few days later, and Gilden sent word to Archimedes I was once again awake. I am told that I was in a feverish stuper at the healers, but was able to warn Archimedes about the Justice Shrine. However, they only found a mysterious Shrouded Figure who led them to Lenmir Antinmolas where they have found a strange device that is responsible for the Paragon Mutations in our lands. I don't know what to make of this shrouded figure - he sounds nothing like what I saw that day...or night. However, my work with the paragons is done and now I can focus once again on the Gargoyle City.

I am certain that the Gargoyles did not immediately evacuate their home of Montor and wandered aimlessly throughout Ilshenar to their new home - the construction of this home must have taken them months. I will propose to Archimedes that the Royal Guard come to Montor and protect me while I do some extensive excavation studies in hopes to find some clues.

Some of the Gargoyle Tombs

On fire we have lived for 500 years, in Montor. Peace we have known. My name is Naxatilor, had visions one night. Tell visions to nobody but Elders. Elders Believed visions was thought to be fake, I not prophet.

I had three visions, maybe four. Three were told to elders, forth not shared. I take forth to my grave. Isolated I lived, fear of visions, hope to be false.

Many years after visions, fire flowed from rock, city shook, homes destroyed. Just like my vision. We tried to save city, elders feared truth of vision. Our leader almost died, vision was prophecy, we move to new home.

Tonight Naxatilor came to me scared. He speaks of visions in dreams.

He talks of three visions. he screamed of Montor falling, Fire pouring, isolation , great evil being enslave gargoyles, another world must be discovered with help. Great monsters and breaking of shrine was begining of third, I told him to stop, took him to elders.

Limdulch bring Naxatilor to me, he was talking of visions. I summon scholar and elder gargoyles.

We listen to him, and I have task of recording visions

He claims Montor will tear apart when fire spring forth from rock. Prosperity of Gargoyles future is in danger, must move to new home. Before gargle find new home, great leader will die.

Second vision was more unbelievable. Great Evil being thing will rise from bowels of earth, and enslave gargoles. He brings Chaos, leads metal creatures. We must completely connect our world to his, entrust his people to save us.

Last vision worse than previous two. Great Evil will come again, related to last great evil - enemy to our people and our friends from other land. Dark Sorcerer is the great evil, and Sorcerer of white is our hero. Naxatilor could not tell me more.

He fears they are prophecy, our people would be afraid. I tell him these visions must be false, he is no prophet.

I lied to Naxatilor, his blood belongs to old Prophet, long forgotten.

The Book of Circles

All begins with the three principles: Control, Passion, and Diligence. From Control springs Direction. From Passion Springs Feeling. From Diligence springs Persistence. But these three virtues are no more important than the other five: Control Combines with Paassion t ogive Balance. Passion Combines with Diligence to Yield Achievement. And Diligence Joins with Control to provie Precision. The absence of Control, Passion and Diligence is Chaos. Thus the absense of the principles points toward the seventh virtue, Order. The three principles unify to form Singularity. This is the eighth virtue, but it is also the first, because within Singularity can be found all the principles, and thus all the virtues. A circle has no end. It continues forever, with all parts equally important in the success of the whole. Our society is the same. It too continues forever, with all members (and all virtues) equal parts of the unified whole.

How Huiman can Speak Gargoyle

The Huiman of our world do not speak gargoyle language. They can not speak it properly. They murder our language, and we must tolerate, for it is not their fault.

For Human to speak proper, first must stretch tongue out three times original length. Stick grapes in nose. Wear small pants.

The Book of Family

When a child hatches from his egg, he is born without wings. But even from birth one can tell whether a child will grow up to be a winged or wingless one. The wingless ones cannot speak, and lack the intelligence of the winged ones. They must be guided. The winged ones are few, but they are entrusted with the intelligence and wisdom of the race. They must guide. Both winged and wingless ones spring from the same eggs, and both belong to the same family. All function as a single whole, to better maintain the struggle for survival in our world.

The Book of Administrations

For Countless ages, we winged ones have led the wingless ones. This is right and proper. But we must always remember that they are no less valuable than we. A body with no head cannot move. But neither can a body with no legs. All must function in unity if anything is to be achieved. So guide the wingless ones, and keep them from paths of error. But guide them with respect.
