Carnivorous Plant Societies

There are several Carnivorous Plant Societies worldwide, but I only belong to two.  Both of them put out a newsletter quarterly, and are very informative.

Books:

Insectivorous Plants by Charles Darwin.  1896. I actually got a copy of a reprint done several decades ago.  I breeze through it every now and then, for the nostalgic value I think. Did have some good information. A good book for collectors, but not for anyone looking for pictures or cultural information.

Carnivorous Plants of the United States and Canada by Donald E. Schnell. 1976. Guess what? Hard to find. Very nice pictures and information. However, I haven't used it for any information on my website yet.
Carnivorous Plants by Gordon Cheers.  1983. Another hard to find book.  Many photographs included, some helpful information on cultivation, and guides to where to the plants are native to.
Carnivorous Plants of the World by James and Patricia Pietropaolo. 1986, Still in print and available. Very good information in here for cultivation, has been a desk reference for me for quite some time.  Not as many photographs as I would like.

As I have research CP's and added information to my Growing CP section, I have found many discrepancies and have stopped using it.

The Savage Garden by Peter D'Amato, (of California Carnivores) 1998. If you can only get one book, get this one! Very informative, very useful, very good. The pictures are great, and the reading is superb. If you have any problems growing Carnivorous Plants, chances are you can find some help in this book. I wish it came in Hard Cover instead of Paperback.
Carnivorous Plants of Australian Volume 1 by Allen Lowrie
EXTREMELY hard to find! I can't believe I even found one! Phill Mann announced an auction for Volumes 1 and 2 on the CP-Listserv, and I was the high bidder. Worth every penny, if not for the information within, then for the resale value! Has information on many Sundews.
Carnivorous Plants of Australian Volume 2 by Allen Lowrie
Hard to find, but not impossible. Phill Mann announced an auction for Volumes 1 and 2 on the CP-Listserv, and I was the high bidder. Worth every penny, if not for the information within, then for the resale value! To make it better, this volume is signed by Allen Lowrie!  Has information on many Sundews.
Carnivorous Plants of Australian Volume ,3 by Allen Lowrie 1998. The last volume of Allen's studies of Australian Carnivorous Plants.  Great reference book for Sundews and Bladderworts.
Carnivorous Plants A Lerner Natural Science Book by Cynthia Overbeck, 1982. This book is written more for an introduction to Carnivorous Plants for children, but the full page photographs available make it enjoyable for all ages.
Plants of Prey by Densey Clyne. 1998. This is another book written for children, but like the one above, it has some of the best close-up photo's I have ever seen. I told myself I buy these books to read to my daughter one day, but I end up just browsing through them for the pictures!

Nepenthes of Borneo by Charles Clarke. 1997. Starting to get hard to find. Worth every penny you pay! This book stays on my end table in my living room, a must for anyone who loves Nepenthes.
Carnivorous Plants of Conechu National Forest. 1995. This is a small pamphlet from the U.S. Department of Agricultural Forest Service. It's pretty neat, and you can get one free if you write them a letter asking for one. (or visiting)

Conecuh National Forest
Rt. 5, Box 157
Andalusia, AL 36420

If you are looking for some books, you can try ordering first through a local bookstore, but sometimes they charge shipping fees. Other alternatives include:

http://www.ebay.com E-bay You say? This and other auction web sites sometimes have Carnivorous things up for grabs.  I got some Carnivorous Plant Stamps there!

http://www.amazon.com Everyone knows Amazon.com I think. I've received 4 books on C.P.'s from them.

http://www.barnesandnobles.com The Book Store Giant. Never tried them before.

http://www.angelfire.com/de/cpbooks/ He deals solely with Carnivorous Plant Literature, and is a good source for hard to find information.
